JD Institute of Fashion Technology celebrates women artisans on International Women’s Day

New Delhi, March 9, 2018: This International Women’s Day, JD Institute of Fashion Technology organized a ‘Design Development Workshop’ in collaboration with Consortium of Women Entrepreneurs of India (CWEI). Held on March 7-8, 2018 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, the event showcased the theme of Powering Change; Women in innovation.

The Design Development Workshop was attended by Shri Giriraj Singh, Hon’ble Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India and Ms. Rupal Dalal, Executive Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology.

Ms. Rupal Dalal, Executive Director, JD Institute of Fashion Technology shared, “The ‘Design Development Workshop’ empowered economically challenged women entrepreneurs by creating a platform to showcase their ethnic craft while reviving India’s traditional dying arts. As India’s leading fashion school, the event reiterated our commitment to celebrate and empower women entrepreneurs from across India while allowing them to register their creativity through TM, Copy Right, and Industrial Design.”

Parallel to the Design Development Workshop, an exhibition was organized that showcased the immortal traditional and cultural heritage of India through ethnic hand made products made by women artisans. These included sarees, tableware, linen, home furnishing, jewellery and accessories made from diverse materials such as metal, leather, stone, glassware, ceramics, wood, embroidery sarees and block printing. These were later displayed by students from JD Institute of Fashion Technology at a Fashion Show during the two-day event. In addition, select women artisans were awarded with free education in design by JD Institute of Fashion Technology during the event.
